Humility
Posted Wed Oct 18 2023So a bit of back story. I started web development as a career only recently. Sure, I knew the basics (though always struggled with JS), but I worked in a whole other industry for over a decade .But for various reasons, I decided to change. I didn't work for nine months, I had another child, and during that time I studied for hours every day. My hard work paid off, and by the grace of God I found work as a web developer. It's a great job, I work with great people, and for the most part, it's cruisy.
However, I've been neglecting my own professional development in that time, and because of that, I've forgotten how little I know.
I'm so happy that I've gotten back on the study wagon. It has reinvigorated my creativity, and every day I'm thinking of ways to implement what I've learned.
Anyway, back to the title. I have been frustrated by things I'm working on, and in my mind, it should be simple, because what I already know how to do seems simple enough to me. But that's because I know how to do that. This is new, and I'm a fool for thinking that what I know and the way I know how to do things is so easy.
I hope I don't forget this sense of humility. That said, I will purchase an absolutely outlandish domain name, and use it on my own server. It'll make up for the fact that I didn't have time to do any studying today.
running πββοΈ
My cardio is pretty poor (well, I think it is), so for the past couple of weeks I've been jogging. I tried this a month or so ago and it was unstructured - I would run until I got tired, hobble along till I had recovered enough, and then run some more. I was doing okay, but couldn't stay motivated. So I thought stuff it, I'll try an app.
The π² Nike Run Club app is

I started on the Couch25K plan, and aside from just having the timers and the weekly plans all there already, they have these Guided Runs with prerecorded coaches that talk while running. I wasn't expecting them to be actually good though, and I think they actually have been really beneficial. I was running today without the guide in my ear, but I was using what I've learnt from them, reminding myself about posture and speed as I ran.
So yeah, great app. I highly recommend it.
Not that I really recommend jogging though. I'm just keen on doing a fun run with my work colleagues, and improving my cardiovascular health is a good thing to do. Once I'm done, I will try and keep cardio in my exercise routine by bushwalking π³πΆββοΈπ³ regularly (I miss it so much, just haven't had time since having kids, and they are too small to join the wife and I).
Sprinting is probably better. I hope I can do that too.
update
I did some studying! Set up a server, accessed it remotely. Pretty neato. I also bought a couple of domains, one for this blog, and another for staging sites.
I should try and configure my homeserver to go headless.
I need to stop staying up so late writing in my glorified digital diary.
